Richard III

Now is the winter of our discontent...: July 29, 2025 - August 2, 2025

Richard III

There is a lull in the Wars of the Roses, and a fragile peace under Edward IV. But it won’t last long. Not with Shakespeare’s favourite villain itching to become king.

Richard’s twisted ambition and murderous plotting soon plunge England back into war, as its royal family tears itself apart with grief, revenge, anger and intrigue. From the widowed Lady Anne to the princes in the tower, Richard manipulates and deceives everyone for his own ends.

This is a play packed with family feuding, black comedy and high drama, and Shakespeare’s Richard III is an irresistibly ruthless monster. Dartmouth Castle couldn’t be a better location to stage this blood-soaked story of greed and the battle for power. It’s easy to imagine yourself in 15th century England as you watch the battle for the throne play out in front of you. Come along and “welcome destruction, blood and massacre!”

Dartmouth Castle is a historic site with steep paths and uneven steps. If you have concerns about access, please contact us at theinntheatrecompany@gmail.com
